Last week, I noticed Google displaying favicons in paid search results. Although Google confirmed they were testing favicons, they (understandably) were tight lipped on any future favicon plans.
This afternoon, favicons have popped up again. Ask.com is still there, but it seems as though Google has given the go-ahead to scrape favicons from UK Government sites. This would indicate that it's not just a once-off test and Google are perhaps seriously considering incorporating brand favicons in paid search results.
Friday afternoons might not be the best day to try to contact your Google rep, so let's see if this is replicated again over the weekend - I hope to have more news to follow up on phase two of the favicon testing soon.
